The first ski trip of the season! In the past we've had good luck with snow by the second week of November but with two storm systems coming in, it was a good opportunity to get some turns in the snow and explore the mountains.
Headed north to Garibaldi Provincial Park with a plan to camp in the alpine for 4 days. The hike to the campground is 7.5 km with about 800 m of elevation to climb. After a slow and steady trek into the campground, the second day was spent scouting the area. Our mission was to head towards Black Tusk (the pinnacle of the mountain hidden in the clouds) which was about another 5km from the campground. We only enjoyed a short ski run. The snow system was coming in quickly and the skies were growing darker by the hour. We decided to head back to camp and bunker down drinking hot beverages and playing games.
We woke up Wednesday morning to find 30 cm of fresh snow. After breaking all that trail, we finally got to enjoy the fresh powder downhill. There we go (Garibaldi Lake in the background)
Unfortunately our trip ended one day early. By Day 3 we ran out of fuel for our stove from our cooking and boiling water. So, it was time to pack up and head home. 8 km later, we were happy to arrive safe and sound to our car... with minimal blisters and pain.
