All - Crossed UP

What does a skier do in  the summer?? After my quest to ride 12 months of year came to a screeching halt at an agonizingly close 9 months due to some really poor planning on my part and a busy work schedule. It is hard to maintain a dual focus and I found myself being drawn to riding my bike more and more. After all cyclocross season was coming up quickly and putting in 12+ hour weeks on the bike doesn't leave much for anything else.

My Cross weapon... With Some upgrades tipping the scales at just over 17 lbs... or lighter than most peoples road bikes..

For those unfamiliar with Cyclocross it is fastest growing cycling discipline in North America. Reasoning? It is short, fast, fun and it caters to neither roadie or mountain biker. Cross in a nut shell, ride fully pinned in a off road course on skinny tires with obsticales, expecting to be cross eyed at the end with cotton lungs like you  did a 45 minute sprint. (Funny enough cause you actually just did a 45 minute anerobic race)

Admittedly I am not a very talented road race nor mountain biker but I am pretty good at both so one day I tried cross and low and behold I won 3 races my very first year. Cross really suits those riders that have a big engine but can hit the sprint button repeatedly without tiring. These attributes are very similar to a criterium racing. But you can't hide your weakness by drafting.

Two years of racing and 2 upgrades later I am hoping to make the jump to ride at the highest category this year. All the stops have been pulled out. Power meter, fancy bike and a dedicated focus to get faster. Only time will tell how you stack up with others.
