It hasn't stopped snowing in Rogers Pass for almost a week. We have been watching the flakes accumulate outside everyday and after our romp in the pillows, we had some big aspirations for the new day. A little bigger, a little badder and a WHOLE LOT DEEPER!! Looking at the forecast we knew that today was the day to go after it. Stability was improving and the system that was forecasted to arrive Sunday would cause a full scale military assault on the park.
We have a pretty good strategy when skiing in Rogers Pass and it is called the Connaught Creek look out. We sit in our warm hotel rooms drinking coffee and count the number of skiers that head into the Connaught Creek drainage, and then head in the opposite direction. Which is kind of sad because there are some amazing runs in that area but I honestly can't handle crowds. At a bright hour of 9am we actually get our permits and head out to ski.
On a week long trip you go through moments of fatigue and then one day your body gives you the extra juice it has been saving for you. After yesterdays 1500m everyone's legs were feeling the burn early. We traveled into a zone that is rarely traveled, yet has yielded great results for us in the past. After a 3 hour skin we were greeted by this...
This week has been somewhat of an educational trip for me. I have never really been one to take pictures but last year I was given a Digital SLR and it seemed only right to use it for taking ski pictures. I was lucky to have Pat Mulrooney along to provide some great tips and feedback to get some really great photos. It is really a treat to be able to capture the visual sensations of skiing and smiles of people having some of the best days of their life.
Words can't express this day so I will have to let the pictures do the talking.

It is very rare to get Pat in front of the lens. When he does step out good things are bound to emerge. Sit back enjoy and be jealous. Pat going deep and finding the white room.

We only ended up doing 750m of skiing but there was no question in any of our minds that today was a top 5 day of all time. You never expect a day like this but when it happens your are thankful. This is why we come to Roger Pass.
As predicted the storm started coming in and we were a long way from home. An hour later we found the promised land. The end to a perfect day and a perfect trip...
